EPC's Approach

EPC's environmental planning philosophy is founded on achieving sustainable community goals. EPC management plans ensure that community growth and viability continue with minimal impact to natural resources. What sets EPC apart from the conventional engineering-based planning company? EPC's approach recognizes that conservation, redevelopment, preservation or maintenance of natural resources is often best achieved through minimization of engineered solutions and the resulting environmental disturbance.

Streams, ground water, and landscapes are integrated systems that have developed naturally over long periods of time (decades to centuries and longer). Disturbance of these natural systems unavoidably causes interrelated adverse impacts, with long recovery periods. These impacts are often most apparent in the water resources portion of the environment. Key to the management and sustainability of landscapes and water resources is the recognition and maintenance of the dynamic interaction between soils, bedrock, surface water, ground water, and aquifer recharge. Integration of land use and development into existing environmental systems minimizes the magnitude of disturbances and the duration of adverse impacts. Redevelopment is preferable over development of undeveloped land or further development of farmland. Redevelopment provides an opportunity to enhance or restore impacted natural systems while preserving unaffected areas.

EPC is committed to providing its clients with progressive solutions to environmental and water resources planning issues that are framed in the context of:

  • The local environmental setting (physical, chemical, and biological factors)
  • Relevant scientific, technical, and engineering factors and limitations
  • Community Goals / Comprehensive Plan
  • Sustaining natural resources to meet the local public resource needs consistent with land and water policies, often compiled in state planning documents, comprehensive plans (county and local) or other planning documents
  • Relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances

Through this holistic process of evaluation, EPC develops objective solutions to water resource needs and land management issues.
